I’m still reading my devotional, “Daily Steps for God Chicks” by Holly Wagner. She has discussed lots of topics, from the importance of getting the God’s Word, to being a daughter of the King; therefore you are a Princess, to not being impatient. It never fails; I am going through or have recently gone through what she is talking about when I read it. I wanted to share today’s devotion with everyone. This is talking about the virtuous woman in Proverbs 31.
“She rises while it is yet night and get [spiritual] food for her household and assigns her maids their tasks.” Proverbs 31:15, AMP
I learned an interesting lesson at my daughter’s science fair. Turns out, back in the ‘90s, a few scientists got together and created a synthetic environment called “Biosphere 2.” They lived inside it for two years… without a Starbucks and without a shoe store (who had that bright idea? J). They generated almost every state of weather, except wind, in this self-contained atmosphere. Because of the lack of wind, it did not take long before the trees began to bow, contort, and even snap.
I realized that we are not too different from the trees (minus the bark on our skin). If there is no pressure from the wind, the trunks of trees grow too weak to even hold up their own weight. In the same way, if there is no weathering the wind of storms in our own lives, there will not be enough strength to hold us as we are growing. Maneuvering and enduring the winds of change and adversity builds strength in our character and our heart.
I like sleeping “while it is yet night,” so I wasn’t too crazy about this verse. Well, I have some good news! After I did some studying, I found out that this verse has more meaning then just the time of day you wake up. I was happy to hear that… although what is does mean is certainly challenging enough!
This verse is talking about you… the warrior… rising in the midst of adversity, in the midst of chaos, in the midst of trouble, in the midst of dark times. You, this awesome force on the earth, are designed to be the one who rises with courage when others are freaking out. (Maybe getting up early now sounds easier. J)
By letting fear overtake you, it will not only limit you but also could very well hurt others. We need to take the focus off ourselves and be the warriors for a family, a city and a world that so desperately need to see courage in action. There are times when we all feel afraid. Courage is doing the right thing in spite of the fear.
The eyes of our Father are looking all over the earth for this warrior princess – a woman who is willing and brave enough to rise in the dark…make the hard decision… risk her time for someone else… share her story so that someone else can be free. C’mon, raise your hand… you are the woman He is looking for!!
Daily Step
Think of one person you know who has risen above in the midst of a hard time. What qualities does she possess that give her the courage to rise above? Are those qualities at work in you? Which ones do you need to strengthen?

I wanted to share the two people that came to mind to me for this type of woman. The first one was my momma. She is definitely a warrior. She is one that will get up “while it is yet night” (physically and figuratively) and pray people through things. She is a prayer warrior beyond anyone I have ever met. She has had to live through many wind storms in her walk in life. She is not afraid to confront someone or something that needs addressing. She is definitely my hero. The other person that comes to my mind is Joy Henderson. She is oddly opposite of my mom, yet I still feel this fits her, she is quiet and watches things go on, but I think that helps her approach things. I know if I need someone to stand at my side and pray me through anything these two wonderful beautiful awesome women come to my mind. There are many others I can think of that are in my life that fit this bill… they are the warrior in the midst of the chaos of the world. But these two women definitely stick out to me as being an awesome virtuous woman, and I pray that God, doesn’t make me like them, but builds these same characteristics in me…. Let me stick out in someone’s mind as God’s warrior princess!!
